Home gym equipment in Lebanon: what to buy first on a small budget

You do not need a rack. Adjustable dumbbells, a mat and one recovery tool cover most of what a home routine asks for.

Buy weight, not machines

A machine does one movement. A pair of adjustable dumbbells does twenty. If the budget only stretches to one purchase, make it the dumbbells.

Twenty kilos split over two handles covers presses, rows, squats, lunges and curls for most people starting out. You outgrow a fixed 5kg pair in a month; you do not outgrow an adjustable set nearly as fast.

Then buy the floor

Concrete floors and apartment neighbours are the two reasons a mat is the second purchase, not the fifth. It protects the tiles, it keeps the plates quiet, and it makes floor work possible.

Recovery is not a luxury

If you train at home you have no one correcting your form, so you accumulate tight shoulders and hips faster than you would in a gym. A massage gun is the cheapest way to stay consistent, because the thing that stops most home routines is soreness, not motivation.

What to skip at the start

  • Ab machines. The dumbbells already cover it.
  • Very cheap resistance bands. They snap, and they snap towards your face.
  • Anything that needs a permanent wall fixing in a rented flat.
