How to choose a TV stand in Lebanon (and what to measure first)

Screen size is the wrong starting point. Measure the wall, the receiver and the cable run first, then pick the stand.

Start with the wall, not the screen

Most people measure the television and buy a stand the same width. That is how you end up with a unit that touches the sockets on one side and the door frame on the other.

Measure three things before you shop:

  • The usable wall width, minus anything you cannot move
  • The depth you can give up before the stand blocks a walkway
  • The height of the receiver, router and console stacked as they actually sit

The 140cm rule for a 55 inch screen

A 55 inch television is about 123cm wide. A 140cm stand gives you a comfortable margin on each side without the screen looking marooned. Going wider is fine; going narrower makes the screen look like it is falling off.

Cable management is the part you will feel daily

Lebanese living rooms usually run a receiver, a router and a UPS or inverter feed. A stand without a rear cut out forces every cable up and over the back panel, which is why the receiver ends up on the floor.

Look for a rear channel or a cut out panel. It costs nothing extra and it is the difference between a tidy corner and a permanent mess.

Flat packed is not a problem, but plan for it

Almost everything at this price arrives flat packed. Budget forty minutes and a second pair of hands. Check the box has the tools before you start, and build it in the room it will live in.
